Chunky Necklaces

I love chunky necklaces. There - I said it. But as my sister is quick to point out, I'm too cheap to buy the really cool ones you can find on etsy . I think I'd be willing to buy one or two for a photo session or special occasion, but my problem is that I want one to match every outfit Brinley has! So, I went to Michaels  and bought some wooden beads and painted them. Problem solved...an inexpensive solution to my chunky necklace problem. This one I painted to match Brinley's outfit that she wore for her birthday party . Yep - she's a cutie.  This one was a less chunky (20mm) necklace to go with an outfit I wore for Cady to wear a few months ago. The girl isn't that into jewelry (unless it's Hello Kitty) - so she's only worn the necklace once. This one's my favorite. It's the first one I made, and it took me the most time. Hand-painted hearts and dots :)  Most of the necklace is soft pink and cream, so that it can be ...

Baby Quilt

I love Jelly Rolls. They really catch my eye. Something about how cutely (it that a word?) they're coiled together just sitting on the shelf. I really don't have a need for them though. I was at JoAnn's the other day and this little guy was on sale so I snagged it. I don't typically like quilts. It seems like a lot of work for a blanket. But, a baby quilt, without fancy quilting I can handle. I had the hardest time figuring out the best layout for these colors. Because I'm a huge dork, I made a prototype. I took small slips of baby and colored them similarly to each strip of fabric. Don't make fun - there were only 20 in this pack so it wasn't a horrible waste of time.   Admit it, you saw my fancy math and numbering system and were jealous. To be sure I liked the layout, I started laying the pieces of fabric out. I quickly realized that I had already been working on this for over a week, hadn't started actually sewing yet, and was ready to get...

Homecoming Parade

Brinley watched the parade last year but she was just a teensy thing then, so we're counting this as her first parade. She was very curious about the floats and some of the people walking by. She had a good time until the circus guy with the costumed circus animals came by. She was leery and just stared at them... Until one of them approached her and tried to give her five. She completely lost her cool. lol. poor kid. Po got to watch the parade for the first time. He too was scared of the circus animals. He cried and ran for the house. Have I ever shared a pic of him on the blog? I'm not sure that I h ave...so here are two.

The Lake

We were on the boat for the first time this season a few weeks ago. The water's still too cold to get in, but we took a quick trip around the lake to check things out. This was Brinley's first time on a boat. She was mad about wearing the life jacket. She needs a smaller size I think. This one kept poking her in the chin and smooshing her face up. It looked really uncomfortable. Yep - she's 14 months old and only has two of her bottom teeth. Technically she was only 13 months in this shot, and now she has 4 on the bottom. Paige was eagerly awaiting her turn to drive. Cady was singing and enjoying the nice cool breeze. Brinley got madder (more mad?) and started giving people the eye. Paige got tired of waiting Cady wanted to be a gangster We checked out the progress on the new boathouse And Paige finally got to drive But Brinley was still less than thrilled, so we went home. I think today J's parents are taking the older two out t...
